Role of the united states
The United States played a large role in the Korean War. They were allies with South Korea and helped them gain stability after North Korea's invasion.
Soon after the invasion on June 25th, 1950 the United Nations went to aid South Korea. However, North Korea had its allies and surprised South Korea so much that by September of 1950, both the United Nations forces as well as South Korean forces to the far southern corner of the peninsula.
MacArthur then set up a line of defense which, although risky, caused North Korean troops back North towards China. As both North Korean forces and United Nations forces move their way closer North, China was preparing for war.
China then sent a jaw-dropping number of troops against U.N forces, forcing them back South. China then captured Seoul- South Korea's capital. However, it did not last long. America regained control of Seoul and drove Chinese forces back North to the 38th Parallel. The war lasted another bitter two years.
In July 1953 an agreement was met. The war had cost America over $50 billion dollars. In ended with many American deaths- roughly 30 thousand- and even more wounded- about 110 thousand.
The United States helped South Korea for it was too weak and unstable to fight alone. America was always there and if it wasn't for us- from the looks of how it was going before we got there- North Korea may have defeated South Korea in as little as a year. The United Nations helped them both financially as well as physically. American Generals had clever strategies that helped South Korea and made a big different in the life of South Koreans. The people of South Korea now have more of a say it what happens due to the sacrifice of many Americans as well as South Koreans.
